DADS LISTEN: “WOW in the World” with Guy Raz, Mindy Thomas, and the musical group “The Pop Ups”

JER: “WOW in the World” Podcast with Guy Raz, Mindy Thomas, and the musical group ”The Pop Ups”. I am a huge fan of podcasts.  I love to put one on while I am commuting to work, when I am washing dishes, cleaning, or at the gym.  It can be a great way to catch up on current events with the “New York Times: The Daily” podcast, to go in depth on a topic with NPR’s “Embedded”, to hear great stories on “This American Life” podcast, to learn how entrepreneurs built companies/brands on “How I Built This”, or some inspirational talks on Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) on NPR’s “TED Radiohour”. These podcasts are great for adults, but kids will usually lose interest pretty quickly.

Luckily, there are a few podcasts that have been especially developed for a kids’ attention span.  So far, my favorite is “WOW in the World” podcast.  It is hosted by Guy Raz (who also co-created TED Radiohour & How I Built This), Mindy Thomas who brings some great comedic relief to every show, and the Pop Ups who add well developed sound effects.  My favorite part is that each episode focuses on a new scientific discovery (complete with citations to the authors and the scientific article), and explains it in a way kids can understand and enjoy.  Lake loves it so much, we have listened to all of the episodes a few times.  It is well worth checking out!

We were asked to think about what our personal "WOW in the World" might be.  Mine is that "ice floats on water (solid H2O is less dense than liquid H2O)", WILD!

I accidentally waited too long to get good seats in the general admission, so we had to pony up for the Very WoW Person passes for the seats near the front.

Which really ended up to be great.

Lake's WoW in the World is that her teacher at Del Ray Montessori would read her stories (a lot, thanks Mr. McReery), and makes up characters for their Dungeon and Dragon's Games.
